(I am reminded a little of Quentin Crisp and the Great Dark Man.  Also, “A sense of unspeakable security is in me this moment, on account of your having understood the book. I have written a wicked book, and feel spotless as the lamb,” a passage Melville wrote about Moby Dick in a letter to Nathaniel Hawthorne. I think there are many ways that this idea of text exploring the mysterious thing is very apt.)
